You can only add so much creativity to your rooms by repainting the walls different colors. Why not try a new, original way to spice up your walls? You can achieve a playful look by adding in different patterns using many different simple and low-cost methods!
Find the Fun
Before you get started with the project, you need to determine what rooms you will be adding in visual interest. This, of course, depends on what patterns you will be choosing, and how much of the room you would like to cover in the pattern. Here are some places to start. Look for where the fun happens! Do you have a playroom for your kids to play in? Do you want your office space to feel more creative and inspiring? Maybe you have a craft or workroom that could use some refreshment.
Stamp it Out
Once you have chosen a room to begin, you will want to decide on a pattern or design for your wall. One fun way to create a design uses rubber bands. In order to create the tool to make this pattern, you will need a square wooden block and rubber bands. Wrap the rubber bands around the block, spacing out as desired. Now you’ve created the stamp! Choose whatever paint you would like your stripes to be in and pour some out on a shallow pan. Then, dip your stamp into the paint to only cover the rubber bands. Finally, you can stamp your wall, alternating directions in order to create a high-interest pattern.
Think Outside the Box
Another design that you can have a lot of variation with is creating an accent wall with geometric patterns. This design is fairly simple to achieve. First, you must decide how much space you want between colors, and which colors you would like to work with. Then, you will use blue painters’ tape to create a geometric pattern. Before adding in the colors, you would like to be within the triangles, you will want to seal off the tape with the color of the wall between the triangles. This will ensure that you have even lines between the triangles. Now you can move onto painting each of the triangles, and once these are dry, you can peel off the tape!
