Paint sheens are differentiated by the amount of light they reflect. There are five common types of paint sheens: flat or matte, satin, eggshell, semi-gloss, and high-gloss. Flat or matte is used commonly on ceilings as it tends to absorb the light instead of reflecting. Satin is somewhat cleanable and is often used in common use areas such as living room, family rooms, and hallways. Eggshell is used a lot of time in kitchens, as it can be much easier to keep clean. Most of the time, semi-gloss is used on trim such as doors, baseboard, or windows because it very easy to clean and highlights your trim. High-gloss is very shiny and is most commonly used on industrial projects.
Last week we were continuing work on a multi-tenant drywall patching, texturing, and interior painting project in Marysville. We started a commercial light gauge steel stud framing and drywall project. We also started a residential drywall hanging and taping project in Magnolia. We are booking our last exterior projects as August is wrapping up. If you would like the exterior – of your house or commercial building – repainted for the upcoming winter months, let us know. We are looking full, but do have a few openings where we could squeeze you in. Be sure to book your painting before you head out for your last vacation of the summer! Thanks for checking in, Ryan Have you ever wondered why everybody uses drywall on their ceiling and walls? Or what came before drywall? If you are old enough, you may remember the widespread use of lath and plaster on homes throughout America. You may also live in a home that has lath and plaster if it’s an older home. Drywall was created as an alternative and is much more commonly installed today.
Drywall can serve a couple of different purposes: as an aesthetic surface when properly prepared, and also as a fire barrier. Drywall is installed to cover up all of your framing, electrical wiring, plumbing, and insulation and to provide a surface that looks appealing. It also can act as a fire barrier during a house or building fire to help keep it contained, so you and your family can get out safely. It is specially created using the proper thickness and materials that are non-flammable to help keep the fire from spreading as fast. Last week we worked on completing an exterior repainting project on a mall in Seattle. We continued a framing, drywall, and interior painting project on a hospital in Monroe. We also continued working on a multi-tenant drywall installation, taping, texturing, and interior painting project in Marysville. As summer is nearing its last month, we are booking all last minute exterior projects. If you would like the exterior – of your house or commercial building – repainted for the new school year, let us know. We still have a couple of openings where we could schedule you in, but these spots fill fast! Thanks for checking in, Ryan Many people make a common mistake while painting a room themselves. People may paint right over the coat of glossy paint they already have on the wall. Doing this can cause your new paint to chip easier. However, there’s an easy way to avoid this mistake; gently sand the wall and wipe down with a damp rag. Wait for it to dry before you paint on top of it. This gives your wall the texture it needs to be repainted.
